Why Did Jesus Come? by Jeannette Vandervalk

This children’s song, composed by Jeannette Vandervalk was inspired by Brad Jersak’s children’s book, “Jesus Showed Us!” and articulates a vision of what the Cross event was all about that is non-toxic for children.

Why Did Jesus Come

Why, oh why, did Jesus come? (3 x)

He came to show us God,

Who made you and me.

Jesus took the lowest place, (3 x)

Keep looking at the cross;

There He shows us God.

God gives us His very Best,

Gladly gives His very Best,

Freely gives His very Best,

Keep looking at the cross;

See the heart of God.

Jesus says: I am with you,

I will always be with you,

Yes, I’ll always be with you

Like God was with Me, too,

Even on the cross.

Jesus calls out: Please forgive;

Father, would you please forgive,

From the cross, He calls forgive,

They don’t know what they do,

They just don’t have a clue.

Thank-you, God, You answered prayer;

You forgave the worst right there.

Now we can forgive and care.

Thank-you for Your cross;

Thank-you for Your love.

Jesus calls come follow Me

Follow Me unselfishly;

Choose My way and follow Me.

Come right through the Cross

To God’s heart of love.
